General Information About the 2 Days Birding Safari

This 2 Day Uganda birding safari is for those interested in birding. It takes you birding in Entebbe and Mabamba Wetland in Uganda. The Mabamba wetland are renowned for hosting the rare Shoebill Stork and is famous to be blessed with a variety of bird species. Mabamba Islands has grown into one of the most interesting and spectacular tourist sites for birding. Mabamba is the only place where the elusive shoebill can be easily spotted at any one time of the day. Apart from the rare shoebill, there are many other bird species to see on this adventure! Entebbe hosts a number of birds species and the list that you make here gives you a picture of what Uganda can offer.

This 2 day Uganda birding Safari visiting birdwatchers set to explore Uganda on a long birding trip, the Entebbe Peninsula is one you cannot overlook and it will set your Birding trip when you arrive through Entebbe International Airport. But even for a quick birding tour, say for a half or full day, the Entebbe Peninsula is one of the recommended spots that are easily accessible from the capital Kampala.

Arrival

DAY 1: Birding at UWEC and Botanical gardens Entebbe

On this Day you will start your 2 Day Uganda birding safari in Entebbe. You will spend time at UWEC, home to captive animals and over 170 species of birds. These include 7 species of weavers, such as the rare Northern Masked Weaver and Orange Weaver, Kingfishers, Sunbirds etcIn the afternoon you will drive to Entebbe Botanical Gardens to also do birding. Here you will have good hours of birding on the best trails around Kampala, with over 150 species of birds. Look out for the Bare faced-go away bird Grey Capped Wabbler, Scarlet Chested Sun bird Tooro olive green bull African green pigeon Black kite Great Blue and Ross’s Turacos, Red Chested, Klaas’s and Diederik Cuckoo, Great Reed Warbler, Fain Tailed Widow bird, Striped, Malachite, Giant, Woodland and Pygmy Kingfishers, Black Bishop, Grey Woodpecker, Olive, Olive bellied, Red chested, superb, Copper etc Sunbirds and many more. A picnic Lunch in the gardens, relax while birding and later in the evening return to your hotel for dinner and overnight

DAY 2: Excursion to Mabamba Wetland

On this day you will look out for many different birds on our way to the swamp like the Papyrus Gonolek, White Shouldered Tit, Red Cap, Western Banded Snake Eagle, White Winged Warbler, White Spotted Fluf tail and Weyns Weaver. This Swamp is one of the best places to spot the exceptional Shoebill Stork. But also many other species can be found here, like the Allen’s and Purple Gallinule, Grey herons, Jacanas, Ruffaus  Bellied Heron, Squaco, Purple and Goliath Heron, the Globally threatened Pallid Harrier and Blue Swallow a migrant species, a variety of egrets, ducks etc. The best way to enjoy the rich bird life is by canoe and you might even have the luck to encounter the elusive Sitatunga Antelope, adapted to swampy habitats. Later in the afternoon drive back to the Hotel birding en route for dinner and o/n stay to end your 2day Uganda Birding safari.
